William A Martin was the older brother of Stephen Martin. They were mustered into the First Minnesota Infantry on May 22, 1861. Williiam was 21 years old, Stephen was 19.  Both served as privates in Company K. William was killed in action at the battle of Antietam on Sept 17, 1862.
