Edwin B Simons was born in Vermont. On April 29, 1861, he was mustered into Company H of the First Minnesota Infantry. He was 24 years old. Ed was wounded in the foot at Bull Run. He was slightly wounded in the leg at Antietam. The date of his discharge from the service is not known at this time.

The 1910 and 1917 rosters of the surviving veterans of the First give his address as the Bureau of Pensions in Washington D.C. and also indicate that he was living in Herndon, Virginia.
