Lawrence Keating was born in Ireland. He was 28 when he was mustered into Company H of the Fisrt Minnesota on May 22, 1861. He was slightly wounded in the left shoulder at the battle at Antietam. He recovered and served until the regiment was discharged on May 5, 1864.
