These is believed to be George Lafin at the 1897 dedication of the 1st Minnesota monument at Getttysburg.

George A Laflin was born in Chittenden County, Vermont on Feb 19, 1837. He lived there for nineteen years and moved to Maple Grove, Minnesota in 1856.

He was 24, when he enlisted at Minneapolis. He was mustered into Company D on May 17, 1861. George stood 5' 10" tall. He had a light complexion, blue eyes and light colored hair. He was the older brother of Adin Laflin, who also served in Company D as did their cousin, Henry Crown.

George was wounded at Antietam on Sept 17, 1862, and was sent to McKims Hospital in Baltimore. He was discharged on March 17, 1863. His records indicate the date as March 25, 1863.

On Nov 1, 1864, George enlisted in Company D of the First Minnesota Heavy Artillery. He was promoted to sergeant on Feb 1, 1865, and discharged with the unit on Sept 27, 1865.

On June 10, 1867, he was married to Miss Annie L Eddy of Maple Grove. She died in October, 1872. He married his second wife, Elizabeth N Kerr on January 7, 1874. He had three children by his first wife and two by his second.

The 1910 and 1917 rosters or the surviving veterans of the First Minnesota give has his address as Lake City, Mn. He died in Lake City on January 6, 1918.
